What It Is

Resveratrol supplements are sold on a longevity promise, but the skin evidence is thin. The body absorbs resveratrol well and then converts almost all of it, so only traces reach the blood unchanged. In the one trial to test it on its own, 75mg twice a day by mouth for eight weeks did not improve skin measures over placebo; wrinkles improved only in the group that also applied a resveratrol cream, and the trial was co-authored by employees of the ingredient's supplier. An earlier positive study used a resveratrol-procyanidin blend, so it cannot isolate resveratrol. Unproven for skin.

How to Use

Supplements range from under 1mg to 500mg per capsule, and no safe, effective long-term dose has been established. The skin trial used 75mg twice a day. Short trials report it is well tolerated, but lab studies show resveratrol can slow blood clotting, so check with a clinician if you take blood thinners. For skin, daily SPF is the better-supported choice; topical resveratrol is the more direct route but is not proven on its own either.
