What It Is

One of the most effective OTC acne treatments. An oxidising agent that directly kills C. acnes bacteria by releasing free radical oxygen — crucially, without risk of antibiotic resistance. At 2.5%, as effective as 5–10% but less irritating. Also comedolytic and mildly exfoliating. Bleaches fabric — use white towels.

Typical Effective Concentration

2.5–5%

At these concentrations this ingredient should appear above the 1% line on the INCI list. If you see it listed after preservatives or fragrance allergens, the dose is likely too low to work as marketed.

How to Use

2.5–5% gel or wash PM. Start with wash-off to assess tolerance before leave-on. Use with ceramide-rich moisturiser.
